Ollis Distro-Corner: Evil Entity Linux

Logo

Evil Entity Linux is the name of the most recent version of Linux distributions on the market. It is not meant as a server or workstation distribution. It's just for fun! So "Undead Linux" has gone a new direction, one that other distributions haven't gone before!
This operating system can be installed with a simple application quickly and easily.

According to the developer this new version of Linux is meant to be installed by private users, who are not interested in using Linux for work but for being online and multimedia (listening to MP3 files, watching TV and DVDs etc).

System requirements

CPU i686
RAM 96 MB
Video 8 MB card with XFree86 4.1 support
Harddrive IDE 4 GB max.
Soundcard a Linux compatible card
Video Capture a V4l compatible card
Modem a common modem
Screen 1024*768 min.

The Test:

The developer introduces the distro with strangely chosen words:

"Many say, "MS Windows has won, and the Linux Desktop is dead!" Now the Linux Desktop is UNDEAD, and it has risen from its crypt in search of virgin blood."

This sentence does not refer to "sucking" ones money out of their pockets but means that the standard theme of the distribution is very dark.

Software:

You can't buy Evil Entity, but you can download it.
You can download the following:

Installation:

The way to the installation is quite long-winded.
There is a lack of linguistic extensions.
Your hardware should be recognized with a little amount of luck (as you may be used to from other distributions).

GUI:

There is no KDE or GNOME desktop. Instead, the Afterstep evironment is used. Windows users will not be familiar with it.

Applications:

There are a small number of applications to install.
One thing I miss is Wine with its ability to run Windows software...
There are some multimedia applications for movies, tv and music. Even games have not been left out. But who uses their PC only for games, fun and relaxation?
There are definitely no office applications.

Bottom line:

"A distribution like no other!"
I agree with this sentence. But it is doubtful if this is the right way to go for linux distributions.
The heavy gothic-look is not very advantageous.
Anybody who wants to run this distribution should be aware that there may be some reborn children.
